The taklimakan area has long been in a dry environment since the sand seahad formedfollowing the uplift of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. However, there existed dry-humid fluctuations, which are consistent with the global temperature variations. The desertification events mainly occurredin the dry-clod climatic conditions and suffered from impacts of human activities. Most of the historicsites in the area abandoned in the dry-cold periods.
