An Analysis of the Investment Concept of Hui Merchants

徽商在明清时期的中国商界盛极一时,徽商的成功与其先进的投资思想密切相关。在投资项目的选择上,徽商重视市场信息,进行充分的市场调研。在投资范围的界定上,徽商投资十分广泛,一些利润率较高的如盐、典、茶、木等行业,徽商均有涉及。同时,徽商投资方式灵活多样,不但做到了“行商”与“坐贾”的结合,而且还进行兼营,即组合投资的方式,该投资方式具有明显的分散风险的特征。

The business of the Hui merchants was greatly prosperous in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Their advanced thoughts of investment contributed greatly to their success. Before they invested in a certain project, they would make sufficient market research. Their investment covered various fields, especially the highly profitable ones like the trade of salt, tea, wood and pawn business. Meanwhile, their investment ways were adaptable; they combined the concepts of 'xingshan' and 'zuoshan' and sometimes they would invest in more than one fields, which was an effective way to decentralize the risks.
