Australia is the largest wool producer in the world. Australian shorn wool production in the 2002/2003 season accounts for 28% of the world total production. The Australian wool industry always invests a lot of money in research and development. As the result, it has made outstanding achievements in improving sheep breeds, opening up new application fields for wool and strengthening quality testing and control in wool production and in processing and developing new wool products. The article introduces some programs undertaken and achievements made in wool growing and wool product development, which offer valuable reference to the Chinese wool sector.
