摘要
受时局所迫,裨治文等早期来华传教士无法直接传教,致力于各项文化活动,客观上推动了中国近代教育、出版、印刷和医学等各项事业的发展,但他们的终极目标都是为了传播基督教,在传播的过程中流露出西方文明优于中国文明的心态。
Under the stringent regulations of the Qing dynasty, the early Protestants added greatly to the West's store of knowledge about China and transmitted an abundance of information about their own civilization to the Chinese for mission. And they think that the western's civilization is beyond to Chinese.
