In ancient times,as a peninsula surrounded by the Yangtze and Jialing River,Chongqing's only land exit was Tongyuan ate,which was built more than 600 years ago to defend intruders,and now still stands with some of its ruined old battlements.Recently it has been fully renovated from its long-dilapidated walls and opened up as a park with a reconstructed magnificent city-tower,two old cannons and some groups of statues of offensive and defensive ancient soldiers up and down the gate,showing the fierce warring scenes of old times.
