How Chinese Learn Mathematics: Perspectives from Insiders was a handbook by Chinese students in various contexts and from various perspectives. There were 4 sections containing 20 chapters in 574 pages. Its publication meant that the field could move on from asking simplistic questions about relative country performances on mathematics tests to more challenging and interesting research areas.
