The Modernistic Elucidation to the Spirit of Xu Beihong

我们应从文化思想史的角度阐释徐悲鸿精神的现当代意义。中国现代性进程的复杂性使徐悲鸿在今日遭到了多方面质疑,对此需要进行学理性清理。以社会为己任、以公共精神的关怀者和推动者阐释和守护世界意义(人文意义)是徐悲鸿的现代人文知识分子的角色认定。在后殖民时代凸显的徐悲鸿精神,鼓舞和启示我们在对民族化和现代化、本土化和全球化的二律背反的思虑中,加强民族自信,让东方发声而不成其为验证西方强大霸权的“他者”形象,以倡导东西方真正的对话交流。

This article elucidates the modernistic significance of the sprit of Xu Beihong from the aspect of the cultural history. Nowadays because of the complexity in Chinese modernistic process, Xu Beihong is questioned in various academic fields, which needs to be academically sifted. To be responsible for the society, and explain and impel the significance of humanism in the world as the participator and propellant to the spirit of commonality is the cognizance of Xu Beihong on the role of the modern humanist. The spirit of Xu Beihong, which was apparently showed in the after-colonial time, has invigorated and inspired us to strengthen our ethical self-confidence in the angst from the antinomy not only between the nationalization and the modernization but also between the indigenization and the globalization. We, the East, should be powerful and overthrow the image of “the other” of the western hegemony to advocate the real dialogue and communication between the West and the East.
