A Comparative Study on the Differences of Chinese and Western Block Books Printing Culture

中国的雕版印刷技术发明后陆续地传播到世界各地,对人类的科技进步和文明产生了极大的影响。由于文化传统和社会政治制度的不同,雕版印刷在中国和西方世界的印刷史中分别扮演了不同的角色,尤其当活字印刷技术发明后,中国与西方对雕版印刷技术所持的态度更是不同熏表现出了不同文化之间的差异。

Block books printing had spread through the world and greatly influenced the human civilization as well as the science and technology development since it was invented in China. Due to the different culture tradition and social politics system, the block books printing took different roles in the printing history of China and western countries. Especially after the invention of typography, the different attitude towards the block books printing represented the difference among the different cultures.
