Deng's Status in the History of China's Modernization

邓小平在中国现代化史上有着特殊的地位,这主要在于:一是他比较成功地解决了中国现代化史上困惑了几代人的一个关键问题———中国现代化与资本主义的关系。历史证明,如何正确对待资本主义的问题是中国现代化发展中的一个关键问题。邓小平从多方面正确地回答了中国社会主义现代化为什么和怎样利用资本主义,从而实现了中国现代化道路探索中的一个重大突破;二是从中国现代化的实际和内在要求出发,依据当代中国现代化面临的条件,领导人民开辟了一条中国现代化的必由之路———改革开放;三是解决了如何通过社会主义实现现代化的大问题。邓小平把社会主义与市场经济联系起来,提出社会主义市场经济理论,这就更新了社会主义观念。在政治上,他强调建立民主法制国家,并初步创立了一个中国特色的可持续发展的现代化发展模式,从而突破了苏联模式的束缚,使中国现代化走出了困境,取得了举世瞩目的成就。

Deng Xiao-ping has a special status in the history of China's modernization. The reasons for this are mainly that, first, he is successful in solving a key problem-the relations between China's modernization and capitalism with which generations of the Chinese were puzzled, second, he, proceeding from the reality and inner requirements of the modernization of China and according to the conditions modern China is faced with, has led the people in finding a path to modrenization-opening up, third, he has solved the problem of how to accomplish modernization through socialism. Relating socialism with the market economy, Deng Xiao-ping has put forword the theory of the market economy and thus renewed the concept of socialism. Politically, he has emphasized building China into a democratic and legal country, presented a modern model of sustainable development with Chinese characteristics and thus left China to shake off the shackles of the Soviet Union model, found a way out of difficulties and achieved great successes of world interest.
