On the Application of Extending in English-Chinese Translation

不同的语言习惯反映着不同的民族文化历史背景、社会习惯、生活方式。在双语转换中将原语词义加以适当引申使之符合目的语的表达习惯,从而使译文越过可译性障碍,化梗阻为通顺,是翻译常用的手段或方法。

Language is a mirror of its national cultural and historical background,social practices and way of life, and thus has its own unique expression of things or concepts.In the reproduction in receptor language of the original message ,the way of extending is often used to render the translation to be in line with the idiomaticness of the target language and to overcome the untranslatability by changing grittiness into coherence.
