Dichlorophenyl-propenoyl-sec.-butylamine(DCPB),a derivative of cinnamamides,is anew effective antiepileptic drug.It is able to antagonizevarious experimental epileptic models in varyingdegrees. In this paper, the antiepileptic effects and itsmechanism of DCPB are investigated with experimen-tal models induced by kainic acid(KA).The resultsshow th3t DCPB can antagonize the experimental epi-leptic model induced by icv KA in mice, by sc KA inrats and by hippocampus injection KA in rabbits.At meanwhile,DCPB can elevate the level ofγ-aminobutyric acid(GABA) and reduce the level ofglutamic acid and aspartic acid in the brain, but it cannot effect the level of glycine and taurine. Thesc maybe one of its phannacological bases of antiepilepsy.
