摘要
作为英语语言的一个变体,法律英语有两个显著的文体特征——准确和正式。为了达到这样的目的,法律英语在词汇、句式和篇章等方面都有着自己的特征,如于其它文体不多见的古语词、屡见不鲜的长句以及众多的平行段落排列等。文章拟从分析法律英语的词汇特征入手,说明法律英语之所以有如此独特的词汇特征是因为这些手段能有效地使法律文件呈现准确和正式的特点。
As a variety of English language, legal English has two striking stylistic features—accuracy and formality. To achieve this, legal English has its own features in words, sentence patterns and bodies, for example, the usage of archaic words which are not usual in other styles, long sentences and parallel structures. This paper analyzes the lexical features of legal English to demonstrate that they are the efficient means to make the legal documents more accurate and formal.
