Calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty Xu Yuanwen's poem 'On Locusts' riles at corrupt officials by exploiting the locust disaster. His friend Jiang Chenying and Wan Sitong wrote a postscript to the poem. Despite his hidden criticism of the political situation at the time, he still won the confidence of the Qing emperor and was entrusted to supervise the compilation of the 'History of the Ming Dynasty'. The free style calligraphy by Xu was collected into the three volumes of book on calligraphy. The work features the characteristics of Xu' s calligraphy and traces its origin to Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi, Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang.
