《何日君再来》在当代(近现代)中国音乐史上是一首颇富争议的歌曲。本文从历史回顾着手,探寻在不同时期、不同背景下该歌曲命运的曲折变化;并从对歌曲的剖析着手,评价其歌词与曲调之艺术特点;从其产生的影响着手,评估它的艺术及社会影响;由此出发,澄清存疑的若干问题。从而认为《何日君再来》是“一首优秀的流行歌曲”,“在早期中国流行音乐史上起着里程碑式的作用”。

“When would you come again” is one of the most disputed songs in the Chinese contemporary music history. Looking back into the history, the author tries to mouse out the winding way of the songs in different times and backgrounds. By analyzing the songs, the author gives comments on the text and melody and their artistic taste. According to its influence, the author discusses its gain and loss in artistic and social genre. The author finally gives the conclusion——“when would you come again” is a not only a good pop song, but a limestone in the early Chinese pop music.
