The Reform and Significance of the American Metropolitan University

1990年美国49所地方性州立综合大学的校长联合签署了《都市大学宣言》。《宣言》明确地重申:知识的创造、解释、传播和运用是大学的基本功能;坚持并接受更宽泛的责任以满足所在都市区域对大学的上述功能的需要;承诺大学机构应当反应都市区域需要,通过教学、研究和专业服务的方式,寻求新的运用人力和物力资源途径以协助领导者解决都市问题。为此,都市大学作为一种新型大学在美国的高等教育中正式出现。

In 1990,The Manifesto of Metropolitan University signed by the presidents of 49 regional state universities reaffirmed that creation,interpretation,spread,and exertion of knowledge are the basic functions of metropolitan universities. The manifesto suggested that metropolitan universities should react to the demand of cities in the way of teaching and research,and provide professional services to help local policy makers through applying human and material resources in a new way. therefore,as a newly emerged university,metropolitan university appears in the higher education system in America.
