The Understanding of Modern University and its Dilemma

大学理念是人们对大学的总体看法和基本观念,包括对大学的实际职能的理解——理性认识,责任使命的确定——价值认定,应然状态的把握——理想追求。当大学走向社会的中心时,大学理念丧失了独立的立场和品格,批判意识减弱,面临着价值追求与适应社会两难选择的现代困境,而走出困境的途径在于寻找二者结合的平衡点。

The understanding of university refers to people's general opinion and basic view about universities including the understanding of its virtual functions--sensible comprehension, the determination of its responsibilities and missions--value determination, the control of its being state--pursuit of ideals. When universities approach to the center of the society, the idea of university is losing its independent stand and character, weakening its critical consciousness and consequently is confronted with the modern dilemma between value pursuit and social adaptation. The way out is to find a balanced point where the two are combined.
