Cross -Border Supervision: Past,Present and the Future

This paper first disausses the Basel Committee' early efforts to offer principles fo r bank regulatory agencies on ways to share responsibilities for t he supervision of the banks that are a ctive both at home and abroad.Secondly it discussed these principles formed the foundation for the Basel Committee'“minimum standards”for the supervision of internationally active banks.Finally it addressed t he cross -border issues that arised f rom the commitee' work on new capital standards.This paper emphasized the importance of i nternational cooperation between s upervisors to cross -border supervision.
