Brief Discussion On the Development of Folk Music From the pre-Qin to the Han Dynasty Based on Documents from Records of the Historian

"究天人之际,通古今之变,成一家之言"。这是两千多年前西汉伟大历史学家司马迁的惊世骇俗之言。他的不朽著作《史记》是我国第一部纪传体通史。在这一巨著中,作者从各个方面记述了中华民族自轩辕黄帝以迄西汉武帝时期约3000年的历史。其中涉及到天文、地理、历史、历法、人物、科技、医学、音乐等各个方面。

These astonishing and extraordinary words are spoken by Sima Qian over 2000 years ago, who was a famous historian in the Western Han. His everlasting masterpiece Records of the Historian is a model of biographical literature of its kind .In this great works , Sima Qian records in elaboration the three-thousand-year history of the Chinese People dating from Emperor Xuanyuan to Wudi of the Han Dynasty, ranging from astronomy, geography, calendric system, history, amous characters, science and technology, medicine, music and so on. The author of this article attempts to make a brief and general analysis and discussion about the historical documents on folk music which exist in Records of the Historian, with a purpose of discovering the process of development of folk music from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period to the Western Han Period.
