North Carolina National Bank (NCNB) Plaza garden in Tampa,American, designed by Dan Kiley, the world famous landscape architecture designer, was once believed to be a masterpiece that won design awards in the first years after its opening to the public in 1988.However,16 years later,it is facing the problem of being removed.High density planting is obviously one of the reasons leading to the NCNB Plaza garden's failure, which proves that the planting pattern, requiring meticulous maintenance and huge investment,is un_ecological,monotonous,and short_lived.Based on what we can learn from this lesson and the prevailing misled practice in planting design, the paper holds that the extreme model of “big tree transplanting” and “massive lawn growing” in garden plant design should be avoided.
