Objective To study the alteration in the glycoprotein combined with BS-1 on the mucosal surface of the oviduct after chlamydial trachomatis (CT) infection. Methods 25 mature femal Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 experimental and 1 control groups, with 5 rats each. The rats of the experimental groups were inoculated with CT(immunotype D)into two sides of the ovarian bursa, while those of the control group with 2SP instead. The rats were killed on the day 3, 5, 7, 14 after the inoculation, respectively. The changes in the glycoprotein combined with BS-1 were observed under fluorescence microscope, and a quantitative analysis was conducted with HPIAS-1000 image pattern analysis system. Results The lesions were limited to the oviductal mucosa. Fluodensitometry results showed that the glycoprotein rich in N-acetyl-D-galactosamine varied with infection time, especiallyin the isthmus of the oviduct. Image pattern analysis results showed that the amount of ghcoprotein secrection wasthe lowest on the day 7 and slowly recovered on the day 14 and there were statistical differences between 4 groups in the amount of its secrection(P<0.05). Conclusion The oviduct is the site of sperm-egg interaction and blastomere embryo development. The glycoproteins rich in N-acetyl-D-galactosamine may play an important role for protecting zygoteand early embryo against attacks from their environment.
