Yuan Shikai's Merits and Demerits ——to discuss with Mr. Zhu Shu Guang

袁世凯一生在经济、政治、文化、社会诸方面未建寸功,而在戊戌政变、签订“二十一条”和称帝等重大事件中罪孽深重。为袁世凯论功辨过既不符合历史事实,也与评价历史人物应全面、客观、真实和科学的基本要求相背。

Yuan Shikai contributed nothing to economy, politics, culture and society in his life time. However, he was sinful in such events as 'the Reform Movement of 1998', signing 'the Twenty-one Demands ' and proclaiming himself as emperor. To discuss Yuan's merits and demerits doesn't conform to not only the historical realities but the fundamental requirement for evaluating figures in an objective, true and scientific way and on the whole as well.
