Bianxingtang Works, written by Dan Gui, an upright official in the late Ming Dynasty, and a converted Buddhist in the Qing Dynasty, had been both banned by the Qing government during the reign of Emperor Qianlong and disdained by some modern scholars. Based on an analysis of Dangui's attitudes toward his works, this paper indicates that Bianxingtang Works reflected his forceful ethical ideology, embodied his profound ethical passion and moral integrity throughout those tacky forms.
