印度洋海啸牵动了世界经济和政治。相对于人员的惨重伤亡而言,海啸对世界经济的影响比较温和,且集中在旅游、保险、航空几个行业。在紧急人道主义救援背后,世界各国或隐或显地表露出主导世界、谋求安理会席位、修正形象、派兵国外等各种政治动机。海啸对中国经济只有轻微影响,中国救援的特点是真情救灾。

Compared to the grievous casualties in the Indian Ocean tsunami, the world economy is not so seriously affected, mainly involving tourism, insurance and aviation. Behind the international humanitarian rescue and relief, there are different motives, either publicly or vaguely expressed, such as dominating the world, seeking a seat in the Council of Security, improving the image and having troops stationed in foreign countries. In contrast, China's help is sincere and generous thought the tsunami has slight effect on its economy.
