李平书是晚清上海的著名士绅。仕途上,他不是高官重臣,功名上,他未跻身进士行列。但他渊博的学识、开明的眼光、过人的见解,使他在同时代的人中熠熠生辉、卓尔不凡。他谨守清正廉洁的为官之道,奉行开明的政治主张,关心民生、热心公益、造福桑梓,这些高尚的品德又让他赢得了人们的景仰和爱戴。他做人立德,做事立功,为文立言,儒家所谓人生三不朽,兼而有之。
An esquire of Shanghai in late Qing dynasty, Li Pingshu was neither a high-ranking official nor a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations. But his profound knowledge and keen insight distinguished him from his peers. His noble-mindedness won him the love and respect from the people then. His virtue, accomplishment and literary achievement were immortal.
