In Innovations in News Writing, the author breaks the framework of theory of basic writing and find that of news writing. His contributions to the formation of the framework of theory of news writing are as follows: 1. He puts forward the concept of 'the soft constituent of news ' and makes an analysis of its practical significance. 2. He discovers 'the rule of four gradations in facts of news' which can provide guidance for news writing. 3. He reveals 'the six pairs of codes' which form soft constituent of news. 4. He convincingly explicates why 'main idea first ' is incorrect in theory at the angle of correctly understanding the connection and difference between the ideology of communication merit and the main idea of news. 5. He invents techniques suitable only for news writing such as news recurrence and news exploitation. 6. He claims to order news constitutions base on the importance of facts and value of communication.
