The relation between the sacred and the secular is a dimension of interpreting the western philosophy. The sacred stands for the uniqueness, unchanging, infinite, and eternity, while the secular stands for variety, change, finite and decay. From the perspectives of the relations of man with the material, with other men and with himself, development of the western philosophy has been following a course of three stages, that is, starting with increasing degree of the sacred, moving on from the sacred to the secular, and then getting lost in the secular.
