莫言是新时期较早树起反叛语言规范大旗的先锋作家,他的天马行空、汪洋恣肆的语言很大程度上代表了实验小说的成就;他坚持个性化写作,用变异手法对语言进行创新实验,依据感觉找语言,用特殊的语言使感觉得到最生动的表现。在词语创新方面,其途径大致有两类:一是用变异手法改造旧词,二是在现有词汇外自创新词。莫言的语言实验提供了许多成功的范例,但也留下一些失败的例证。

Mo Yan is one of the first and also the most punctilious novelists who carry out language reform. His language, which is full of an unrestrained and vigorous style that brims with talent, becomes a representative of experimental literature. He insists on individually writing; proceeds with language in a varied way; selects words with his own feelings and makes himself be expressed thoroughly. He uses the following two ways to widen the language expression capacity. One is changing the words' structure by variation. The other is creating new words with innovation. In the process of reform, Mo Yan's language practice provides a great of success. In addition to his achievement, there are also a few failed examples, which will be analyzed to some extend in this article.
