On the Communication of D. H. Lawrence in China Before 1980'

D·H·劳伦斯于1922年走进中国读者的视野之后,杜衡、杨昌溪、赵景深、南星、陈梦家、饶述一、郁达夫、林语堂、金东雷等等学者和翻译家便以开明、健康的人文心态和独立自由的学术精神积极译介和评述劳伦斯的作品,使劳伦斯在中国大陆的传播于30年代进入第一个高潮。20世纪30年代后期至70年代,劳伦斯及其作品渐渐淡出了国人的视野。这种变动起伏在一定程度上反映出时代征候、文化氛围、社会需求和精神潮流的变化。

Since D. H. Lawrence' works were introduced to the Chinese readers in 1922, many Chinese scholars and translators, such as Du Heng, Yang Changxi, Zhao Jingshen, Nan Xing, Chen Mengjia, Rao Shuyi, Yu Dafu, Lin Yutang, Jin Donglei, began to translate and comment actively on his works in a humanist attitude and free academic spirit. Thus, in 1930's, the communication of D. H. Lawrence's works in the Chinese mainland entered into the first climax. From 1930's to 1970's, Lawrence and his works began to die down the views of the Chinese readers. This changes reflected the changes of times characteristics, cultural atmosphere and spiritual tide.
