Objective To explore the expression of TGF-β1 (transforming growth factor-β1) and TβRII(transforming growth factor-βreceptorII) in pancreatic cancer. Methods TGF-β1 and TβRII were examined immunohistochemically using strepto-advidinbiotin complex (SABC) method in pancreatic specimens of 36 patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, 13 patients with chronic pancreatitis and in 10 specimens of normal pancreas. Results The positive rate of TGF-β1 was 44.4%,7.7% and 10.0%; the positive rate of TβRⅡ was 47.2%,15.4% and 10.0%,in pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis and normal pancreas respectively. The coexpression rate of TGF-β1 and TβRⅡ in pancreatic cancer (1336, 36.1%) was increased significantly compared with chronic pancreatitis and normal pancreas (P<0.05). TGF-β1 and TβRⅡ expression was not related to the age,sex of patients, and site, size and histopathological grade of tumors (P>0.05), but related to clinical stage of tumor (P<0.01). The coexpression in pancreatic cancer was related to the histopathological grade and clinical stage of tumors (P<0.01). Conclusion The detection of TGF-β1 and TβRⅡ expression in the human pancreatic cancer will be useful in assessment of its clinical status.
