杜甫爱竹,诗作中言及的树木以竹为最多,是因为竹所蕴涵的文化精神——劲节、虚心、坚忍以及形体上的瘦硬特征与杜甫的人格理想、性格特征恰到好处地融合在一起。杜甫一生,重视风节操守,为人谦虚,性格坚忍,艺术审美追求“瘦硬”。竹就是他的精神化身。

Du Fu loves bamboo, and bamboo is most mentioned among the trees in his poem just because the cultural spirit that the bamboo contains: strength burl, open mind, long-suffering and the thin-hard characteristic on physique,is in good harmony with Du Fu's personal ideal and characteristic. Du fu thinks much of moral integrity, humility, upright in persuit of 'thin-hard' in artistic taste for the whole life. Bamboo is just his spiritual embodiment.
