Voltaire as a Cultural Historian

文化研究是当今人文社会科学领域的热门学科之一。伏尔泰不仅是法国启蒙运动思想家,而且是重要的文化史家,被尊称为"文化史之父"。本文在回顾文化史研究历史的基础上,对伏尔泰在文化史研究领域的杰出贡献和深远影响及其局限性作了分析和评述,以对现今的文化研究提供一种纵向参照。

Cultural study is currently one of the popular disciplines of humanities and social sciences. Being a great French Enlightenment thinker, Voltaire is also an important cultural historian, honored as 'father of cultural history'. This essay, based on an observation of the history of cultural history study, is an assessment and evaluation of Voltaire with focus on his contribution and influence in the study of cultural history as well as his limitations, in hope of providing a historical reference for the current cultural study.
