With the interchange in the south of Chengde as an example, this paper discusses the various factors that need to be considered in the planning and type-selecting of express highway interchanges, such as the grade of the crossing highways and their functions in the highway system, the topographic and geological conditions, turning traffic volume and interchange functions, etc., in order to choose the right location and the right type for the interchange.
