Grasping the evolution trend of river estuary scientifically is the basis of comprehensive regulation and development of estuary. Protecting the health of Yangtze River and promoting the harmony between human and river water is the key to ensure sustainable social and economic development at estuary area. The most important task for the regulation and development of estuary is to meet the demand of navigation. The long term goal of regulation is to build an artificial estuary. The main regulation means is the combination of regulation, reclamation and dredging. To control and stabilize river regimes in estuary is the urgent problem to be solved at present. The integrated management of estuary can ensure the regulation and development reasonably and scientifically.
