Psychoanalysis of Hester:A Lacanian View of Poststructuralist

本文运用拉康的后结构主义精神分析理论对美国作家霍桑小说《红字》中的主要人物———海丝特进行了剖析,以拉康的无意识的三个级别中的两个即想象级、符号级阐释了海丝特的心理发展过程,认为这一过程在人物的社会心理上是她从自我认证这个虚构的统一的自足世界到最终接受社会法权,向大写的他者屈服,得到社会的认可和他人的认同,受到符号和社会检验的过程。最终她的心理发展从想象级进入了符号级。从一个独特的视域展现了人物性格与心理的发展。

Based on the Lacanian view of poststructuralism, the paper attempts to give psychoanalysis of Hester, the heroine in Nathaniel Hawthorne's well-known novel The Scarlet Letter, using the imaginary order and symbolic order to interpret the process of Hester's psychological development. Hester moves from her psychic involvement in the imaginary into the culturally defined freedom of the symbolic. At first she is contented of her self -identification in the imaginary. Finally she accepts the Law, its symbols of authority, and through them the rule of the register of the symbolic. From a unique view this paper presents the process of Hester's psychological development.
