The recent development of whisker′s growth mechanism was reviewed in details. And the, the preparation methods of Si_3N_4 whisker were discussed , the effects of temperature, additive and so on for Si_3N_4 whisker were accounted for. The performance of Si_3N_4 whisker of reinforcing material have been commented. It was pointed out that strengthening basic research to development whiskers with high quality and low costs was the near future-developing trend of whiskers.
