英汉语翻译中的文化介入

On Cultural Intervention in English / Chinese Translation

本文认为,翻译是一种在跨文化语境下的交际活动,其主要目的是按照既定的交际目的在不同文化群体的成员之间建立交际。接着文章讨论在翻译过程中不可避免的文化介入。作者从审美取向、政治介入和文化定式的角度来论证翻译不仅是语言翻译,更多的是文化迁移。且在翻译过程中,“目标文化包容性越强,译文就越要接近源语文化;目标文化排它性越强,译文就越要接近目标文化”。最后,作者为解决翻译(尤其中英文翻译)过程中的文化障碍问题提出了一些可以采纳的翻译策略。

In this paper, the author defines translation as an act of communication in a cross-cultural context, the main aim of which is to establish communication between members of different cultures in accordance with previously determined communicative target purpose. He will then discuss the unavoidable cultural intervention in the process of translation. Cases in Aesthetic Preference, Political Involvement and Cultural Stereotype will be studied to prove his proposition that translation is cultural transfer rather than linguistic transfer, that 'the more inclusive the target culture is, the closer the translation is to the source culture, the more exclusive the target culture is, the closer the translation must be to the target culture.' In the last part of the paper, he will propose strategies of translation (especially for the translation between English and Chinese) with which we can tackle the cultural barriers in the process of translation.
