Spoken drama in Taiwan took its turn from traditional realism to modernism in late 1960s and in 1970s. In order to vividly reveal life and people in the real world, and to inject more vitality to the declining spoken drama in Taiwan, the dramatists represented by Yao Yiwei, innovatively incorporated some elements in western modernism drama into the traditional operas of China, which eventually promoted the development of Chinese spoken drama.
