In order to gain the experience in pathological microvascular anastomsis, Moncheberg's atherosclerosis(AS) models of rats, quite similar to the human's, were replicated and 106 anastomosis were performed on the AS vessels (diameters form 0.4 to 1.2 mm) with a patency rate of 91%2~35 days after the operation. Histological examination revealed no definite evidence of deteriorated repairing outcome by the morbid state of the AS vessels. It suggested that anastomotic event might only exert a single stimulation on the AS vessels. The pathologic state and course of the AS vessels showed neither aggravated by the injury response nordeteriorating the repairing outcome of anastomotic stoma after anastomosis. Satisfactory patency rate of the AS microvascular anastomosis can be achieved with the further perfection of microsurgical technique and preoperative management.
