Which city does “Khumdan”, a foreign translation name of a place, refers to in the ancient China? In more then one century, there have been many different interpretations. In the paper it is proved, from the contraposed Sogdian and Chinese inscription newly discovered in the Shi Tomb of the Northern Zhou in Xi’an, that “Khumdan” is indeed the foreign translation for Chang’an. This is another definite proof after the ancient Sogdian letters of the West Jin Dynasty found in Dunhuang and the record in Tang’s Tablet for Da Qin Nestorianism in China. The author settles the long time controversial riddle with the most credible information from the unearthed relics and answers some hypothesis and questions in related articles.
