An Exploration of the Enigma of Wu Renbi' Death

五代吴越国吴仁璧沉江事件和钱鏐礼贤下士之风颇为扞格,故考索吴仁璧被沉江的时间、地点、原因等疑难问题,并分析吴仁璧和钱鏐各自应承担的责任。认为此事件说明钱鏐对文士的宽容和理解还不够,但不能由此否认钱鏐的礼贤下士之风及对吴越国的贡献。

The death of Wu Renbi clashed with the fact that in the Wuyue Kingdom of the Five Dynasties scholars were highly respected. This paper explores the time, reason and other enigmas of Wu Renbi's death in the river. It also analyses the respective responsibilities held by Wu Renbi and King Qianliu for former's death. It argues that although the King Qianliu should hold partial responsibility for Wu Renbi's death, it doesn't mean that scholars were not much respected in the Wuyue Kingdom of the Five Dynasties.
