The opening of Mengzi Customs and the shift of Yunnan modern market structure

明清时期,云南传统市场有了较大发展,形成了迤东、迤西、迤南三大市场。1889年蒙自关和滇越铁路的开通,云南对外贸易日趋繁荣。大锡的出口和外来商品的涌入,西方金融业的开办,云南传统市场结构出现转型。由此,云南与内地一道迈入近代化的历程。

During the Ming Qing Dynasties,the traditional market of Yunnan progressed comparatively fast, which resulted in the formation of three regional markets of East, West and South Yunnan. In 1889, with the establishment of Mengzi Customs and the construction of Dian-Yue(from Yunnan to Vietnam) railroad, Yunnan's foreign trade became increasingly prosperous.The export of tin, the influx of foreign goods, and the opening of western financial industry led to the shift of Yunnan’s traditional market structure. From then on, Yunnan, like other inland provinces, entered into the course of modernization.
