Study of Unequivalence in Translation from the Perspective of Functional Grammar

在翻译活动中,对等是所有翻译方法的目的。等值是一个难于操作又很难取得一致意见的概念,中外翻译理论家都从各自不同的角度对此有过阐述。系统功能语言学把语篇分析应用于翻译研究,为翻译研究打开了新的视野,而其强调的经验功能及文化语境也为分析唐代诗人刘长卿的一首诗《逢雪宿芙蓉山主人》两个译文与原文的不对等提供了理论依据。

In translation, equivalence is the aim of all the translating methods, but equivalent effect is a concept, which is hard to operate and to reach an agreement. Translation theorists at home and abroad have elucidated it from different aspects. Systemic Functional Grammar applied discourse analysis to translation studies, which opens up a new field. It also stresses experiential function and cultural context, which provides theoretical base to analyze the unequivalence between the two English translations and the original of a poem written by Liu Changqing in the Tang Dynasty.
