The life and experiences, versatility and garden creating achievements of JI Cheng, an ancient Chinese garden creator, are introduced. Yuanye, the book he wrote, is elaborated through its first printing, long period without attention, and reappearance, and its editions, main ideas and styles are also included. The relationship between JI Cheng and RUAN Dacheng, and the reason why no attention was paid to the book are expounded with the particular new view, which analyzed while the writing background, circulating history, and contents and layout of the book are emphasized, which would provide new inspirations for re-reading the book.
