科威特的现代化进程及影响它的几个因素

THE COURSE OF MODERNIZATION OF KUWAIT AND SOME ELEMENTS AFFECTING IT

科威特是波斯湾西北角的一个小国,但它是海湾国家中重要的产油国和世界上有名的投资国,在当今世界的石油供应和国际金融信贷活动中起着令人瞩目的作用。科威特1961年取得民族独立后,特别是70年代以来,在经济社会发展和民主政治等现代化进程方面已取得了重大成就。

Since the independence in 1961, especially from 1970s onward, Kuwaithas attained important achievemets in the course of its economic, social andpolitically democratic modernisations. In the meanwhile, like many othercountries in the third world, there has been many elemeats in this country that influence and constrain the course. We cite the chief ones as follows:scarcity of arable land; inadequacy of labor force and relative 1oW of its quality;instability in economic development and malpractices in administrative mana-gement; unsuitability of the ideology to the need of modernizing progress; theeffects brought about from Iran-Iraq war and social insecurity; some insecurefactors within societies. Now, the government of Kuwait is adopting propermeasures to expand the advantages previously gained in various fields and toreduce the disadvantages affecting the course of modernization.
