目前所著录的唐代墓志大约有七千方,其中佛徒墓志大约有三百方。佛徒墓志数量不多,语料价值却比较高。佛徒墓志的语言接近当时口语。关于佛徒的称谓词,非常丰富,反映了唐代词汇的特征。
