The job of IP is to provide a best-efforts (i.e., connectionless, not guaranteed) way to transport data from source to destination, but the user requires that Internet should provide reliable data transportation from the source machine to the destination machine. Is there a contradiction between unreliability of IP connectionless and reliability of Internet transportation? This paper discusses the relation between IP and Internet reliability.
