A Brief Talk on Lin Shu’s Translations and Its Sense of Chinese Literature History

林纾是中国翻译史上的开拓者,其译作推进了中国的文化现代性和中国现代文学话语建构的进程。林译小说恰似一扇洞开的窗牖,国人首次从此洞悉西方世界的文化与人生。林译小说滋养了新文学整整一代人,中国新文化的诞生,林纾实乃其先驱。

Lin shu is among the forerunners in Chinese translation history. his translations greatly improve the process of Chinese cultural modernization and Chinese modern literature language construction. Lin’s translated novels is just like a wide-open window, from which Chinese for the first time have knowledge of culture and life in western world. we can say Lin’s translated novels bring up the whole generation of new culture, but our sphere of learning has been paying little attention to Lin shu and his translated works.
