Based on classical description of superficial acupuncture recorded in“the Yellow Emperor'S Canonof internal Medicine, combined with modern literatures of the studies on meridians and he collaterals as well as author's clinical experiences, he made systemic exploration on the methods, indications,attentions and mechanisms of the superficial acupuncture in this paper. It is concluded that provided the manipulation of superficial acupuncture is properly performed, it will definitely produce satisfactory results. However, the therapy remains to be further investigated.
