摘要
社会的发展要求以研究和传授高深学问为己任的大学担负起学术研究的社会责任。大学如何在承担学术研究社会责任的同时,又保持“学术自由”的传统?一方面,学术自由是保持大学活力的源泉;另一方面,享受学术自由的大学也应该履行与自由相对应的社会责任。德里克·博克提出了学者、政府、大学在承担学术研究的社会责任和维护学术自由方面各自应起的作用。这对于正在深化改革和走向现代化的中国大学有多方面启示。
Social development calls for universities, which take studies and instructions of profound knowledge as their duties, to undertake the social responsibilities of academic research as well. How can they do this while maintaining 'the academic freedom' tradition﹖ On the one hand, academic freedom is the fountainhead of the university vigor; on the other hand, universities are also supposed to shoulder the social responsibilities corresponding with the freedom they enjoy. Derek Bork proposed that the scholar, the government and the university should play their respective roles in undertaking the social responsibilities of academic research and maintaining academic freedom. This viewpoint offers some enlightenment to those universities that are deepening their reforms and moving towards modernization.
