Senior Researcher of the China Institute of International Studies and Guest Researcher of CPDS. Both Germany and Japan committed heinous crimes to the people throughout the world during the Second World War. Up to today, Germany has obtained the forgiveness from all member states of the international community. On the contrary, Japan is despised and distrusted by the people of more and more countries. Especially in recent years, Japan gravely distorts history and its ulterior motives deserve serious public attention of the world people. Tracing to their sources, the reason is that both countries are affected by different factors internally and externally in the past 60 years since the Second World War, thus leading them to divergent awareness over their respective historical crimes.
